On Teachings and Temptations

Being a teacher requires a lot of hard work. Disciplining students… Preparing the lessons.. But above all, our main goal is to inspire students to become a better individual: socially, mentally, academically, and of course spiritually. With all those hard work, I would always remember how Christ became a teacher by teaching us what we need to learn in life, especially in knowing and glorifying God’s name. I’m very thankful that I am also given a chance to do the same thing in my own little way. Though not exactly the same with what and how Christ taught us, at least I am able to include some. Though my subject requires academic explanations and discussions, I still make it to a point to integrate words of God to my lessons. I can’t explain the happiness I feel everytime the class became active and energetic as we also tackle some spiritual lessons.

I just would like to share with you a poem that I taught in my first year students in our Literature class. It is entitled PARABLE and was written by Emmanuel F. Lacaba.

PARABLE

“Go where I go”, said the fire,
Having burned his way before.

The fire fought hard his former
Friend, and yielded with cry,

“Direction you may be, I
Am still the blaze, the glory.”

I found it difficult to understand at first, but as I analyzed each part, I found out that it’s all about one’s attitude towards temptation. It says here that we are being tempted by the things that surround us. It could be money, material thing, or even a person. It depends on us whether we allow those things to affect our lives or we will still hold on with our own faith. Sometimes, we let other people or things affect our lives, but we are still our own boss. We’re still the one who will direct our own, and will decide for whatever action we would like to do. So if ever we know that we are already tempted, just pray and ask for God’s guidance and for sure He will help us in resisting the temptation.

Going back, I thank God for giving me this job. Though I didn’t really love this at first, now I could see how important teachers are.. Especially Jesus Christ, our mentor. This is really unexpected, a God’s will. Let’s just lift all to God and He will guide and direct us in our right path.
